How cash pickup works on Markethire (Perth guide)
Hiring from a neighbour shouldn't feel complicated. On MarketHire, payment and handover are meant to stay simple: you agree the details, meet up, check the gear together, and settle cash at pickup.
Here's how it works in practice for Perth hirers and owners — without the jargon.

Before pickup: agree time and place
Once you've found something you need (or someone's requested your gear), put the hire dates in the request. After the owner accepts — when contact details show on the booking — agree a time and place between you:
- When you'll meet
- Where you'll meet (somewhere that works for both of you)
- How long the hire is for
- Anything the owner wants you to know about using the item
Keep it clear and practical. You're arranging a local handover, not a warehouse booking.
At pickup: check the item together
Meet at the agreed time. Walk through the item together — condition, how it starts, anything that needs a quick how-to.
Then pay cash at pickup. You hand over the cash; the owner hands over the gear. Straight and simple.
Nothing is charged through MarketHire.
Returning the item
Bring it back as agreed: same place or a return spot you've both confirmed, and in the condition you borrowed it in (normal wear aside).
A quick check on return keeps things neighbourly. Every booking has a place for condition photos at pickup and at return — once added, they can't be edited or deleted — and owners can set a bond, paid at pickup and handed back when the item comes home.
Fees, plainly
For owners:
- Free to list
- $0 platform fee for now
You're not paying to get a listing live while the marketplace grows. "For now" is intentional — we say it that way on purpose.
What's next
The marketplace is still filling. Early listings and careful handovers are how Perth peer-to-peer hire gets built.
Soft next step
